Differences between Apple AirPods Pro and AirPods 2

With the AirPods Pro Apple has really brought a lot of new things. But AirPods Pro also cost a little more. As the name suggests, it's the premium version of the AirPods.

Style

Compared to the AirPods 2, the AirPods Pro are in my opinion a bit more stylish. The well-known handle of the AirPods is much shorter here. This also makes the AirPods Pro look more compact. A very nice upgrade, I think.

Fit

Very interesting compared to the AirPods 2 is the fit. The AirPods Pro has three different attachments. The AirPods 2 and its predecessor had only one fit and no additional attachments. For some, this might be a very relevant factor in their purchase decision.

Battery life

At the point of battery life, Apple surprises a little. The AirPods Pro perform a little worse here. The battery life of the AirPods Pro is up to 4.5 hours. The AirPods 2 have a battery life of up to 5 hours.

However, both cases have a battery life of up to 24 hours if the case is added. As is now common practice, the AirPods can be charged via the case. A very practical thing that other manufacturers also used.

Case

The two AirPods differ in size and weight. Overall, the case of the AirPods Pro is slightly larger and accordingly heavier. It weighs about 45 grams. With the AirPods 2, the case weighs just under 40 grams.

More exciting, however, is the point of inductive charging. The case of the AirPods Pro supports wireless charging. For AirPods 2 this option costs extra.

Waterproof (IPX4, AirPodsPro)

A major deficiency of AirPods 2 was its water resistance. The 2nd generation was not made for use in water and was not classified as waterproof in any way. Just like the 1st generation AirPods.

With the AirPods Pro, Apple listened to the customer's wishes and added a little more. The AirPods Prod are certified with IPX4. However, the headphones are still not suitable for use in water. Swimming with the AirPods Pro therefore remains flat. However, they are sweat and water repellent.

Active Noise Cancelling (AidPods Pro)

A hell of an upgrade for AirPods Pro is Active Noise Cancelling. This is neither the case with the 2nd generation, nor with the AirPods of the first generation.

The AirPods Pro has two microphones on board. In combination with the software used, the AirPods Pro can filter ambient noise well.

Sound: Adaptive equalizer (AidPods Pro)

In terms of sound quality, the Pro version has received an improvement. Now there is an equalizer with which the sound can be adjusted even better and more individually. This is also not possible with the old AidPods or AirPods 2.

Siri voice control

Siri, Apple's voice control system, was also one of the new features on AirPods 2. Apple has kept that with the AirPods Pro as well.

So you can control both AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro by voice. For example, you can control the music selection or adjust the volume by speaking.

Are the AirPods Pro compatible with Android?

Yes, AirPods Prod and AirPods 2 are compatible with Android. Apple headphones can be used with any device that supports Bluetooth.

Paring with Apple products is a little bit easier and faster. Nevertheless, it's no problem with any other system, such as Andorid or Windows.

This sets AirPods apart from the other Apple products. Apple usually relies on a completely closed system.

Which AirPods are better?

The facts are that AirPods Pro* is the better headphones. But they cost much more than the AirPods 2, so which headphones are better for you and which AirPods you should buy is up to you.

If you want Active Noise Cancelling, you need to buy AirPods Pro*. In addition, AirPods Pro are equipped with a pronounced equalizer, which you have to do without with AirPods 2.

A plus point for the AirPods Pro is also the additional attachments. There are three of them. The AirPods Pro therefore offer a better fit than the AirPods 2.

Both generations are not waterproof. Compared to AirPods 2, AirPods Pro are both water and sweat resistant. Excellent with IPX4. However, neither is suitable for use in water sports.

An advantage of the AirPods 2 is the slightly longer battery life. Both generations have the same battery capacity in the case. The AirPods Pro comes with a case that supports inductive charging. For the second generation AirPods, you'll need to buy an extra case.

If you don't need any of the extra features of AirPods Pro*, AirPods 2* is for you. In that case, you'll want to take the 2nd generation as well, because you can save a lot of money.

Should you upgrade from AirPods 2 to AirPods Pro?

In this case, the upgrade is basically the same as the new purchase. AirPods Pro* doesn't offer you much more. On the other hand, for some, like you, the new features can be pretty damn interesting.

AirPods Pro offers you more:

  • Active Noice Cannelling
  • Equilizer
  • Additional attachments, 3 pieces (for a better fit)
  • Waterproof with IPX4 (Attention! Not for water sports. Sweat- and water-repellent)
  • Housing with wireless charging (without additional costs)

From my point of view, Active Noice Canelling is the most relevant item in the list. In my opinion, it is also the point that will determine your decision. In second place I see the additional essays on AidPods Pro. This gives a better fit.

The upgrade to IPX4 is relatively irrelevant in my opinion, as the AirPods are still not suitable for water sports.
