Differences Garmin Forerunner 45 and Forerunner 245
The newer Forerunner 245 offers everything that the Forerunner 45 has. But also much more. The Forerunner 245 is newer, but the Forerunner 45 is much more expensive. In short, the Garmin FR245* is also my recommendation. But let's go into more detail.Music & Apps
With Forerunner 245, you have 3,5 GB of music storage available. You'll also need to select Forerunner 245 Music*. There is also a Forerunner 245 without music*. The Forerunner 45 doesn't have a variant that supports music.You can also use streaming services on the 245 with music. These include Spotify and Deezer. So you can listen to music on your Garmin Forerunner completely independently of your smartphone. Bluetooth headphones connect directly to your clock.
Pulse oximeter
The pulse oximeter technology was initially only available on the Garmin Fenix 5X Plus. Now it has become a standard in Garmin's new models of high-end GPS watches.The primary function of the pulse oximeter is to measure blood oxygen saturation. With many other devices this is also called SpO2 measurement.
Garmin also uses this value to better measure, analyze and evaluate your sleep.
Running
The Forerunner 245 differs clearly from the Forerunner 45 in the point of the run evaluation. The 245 offers some functions:- Ground Contact Time

For some measurements, however, additional Garmin sensors are required. These are for example:

However, it does not matter which sensor you choose. The differences are in price, handling and accuracy.
Waterproof & Swimming
Although both Forerunners are waterproof, only the Forerunner 245 is suitable for swimming. The Forerunner 245 has a Garmin that gives you a lot of information about your swimming units. Which Garmin Forerunner is better?
There's no question that the Garmin Forerunner 245* is significantly better and more complex than the Forerunner 45. The price is also higher, but you get a lot more.If you want to save some money you can also choose the Forerunner 245 without music*. Here you just don't have the option to save music on the clock and can't use Spotify or Deezer. But the clock is much cheaper.
