Design
Visually, it's hard to tell the difference between the two watches. The Polar Vantage M and Vantage M2 have the same dimensions of 46 x 46 millimeters. The thickness is also identical at 12.5 millimter.Only at the bracelets something small has changed. In the Vantage M, the bracelets are somewhat more rigid and the watch can not be laid flat on. With the successor, the Vanrage M2, this has changed. The watch can now be laid completely flat.
Display and operation
As with the Vantage M, the Vantage M2 still doesn't have a touch display. Not necessarily a bad thing for sports use. In sports and in conjunction with sweat, this can become quite annoying. Because then the watch can quickly make itself independent. Operated both the Vantage M, as well as the Vantage M2 via the buttons on the side.Polar continues to focus more on sports functions. Unlike other manufacturers such as Garmin and Fitbit, which are increasingly trying to conquer the smartwatch market.
The type of display has not changed further. Due to the technology (MIP), it usually appears relatively dark, as it only works with the help of ambient light. To help, however, both models offer a backlight. The advantage is that both models are extremely legible in the sun. Unlike many other smartwatch displays.
New to the Polar Vantage M2
Almost all the features of the two models are identical. One reason why we only focus on the new features of the Poalr Vantage M2.FuelWise
FuelWise is a feature from Polar itself. It's all about using your energy needs properly during your workout. So you can pre-memorize when you want to drink something or take carbohydrates. The purpose of the function is to maintain energy during training. Thus, this function is more useful for longer sports units. The Polar Vantage M does not have FuelWiese.Energy sources
Somewhat related to FuelWiese is the second function. The "Energy Sources" function on the Polar Vantage M2 shows you over the course of your workout which energy sources your body has used and when. This involves the differentiation between fats, carbohydrates and protein. This function, as well as FuelWiese, is already known from the Polar Vantage V2.Weather
Next, there is a new weather function. Here you can get a widget on the clock, which gives you information about the weather. When selecting the widget, you can then also dive deeper into the weather details. A weather forecast is also available.Music Control
Compared to the Vantage M, the Polar Vantage M2 has a music control on board. For many certainly a very practical thing. Although you can not save music directly on the clock, but you can control the music on your phone. You can thus pause the music, select the next or previous song and you can change the volume of the music. Whereby this is also possible via most headphones.
Sleep analysis
. The Polar Vantag M did not yet have a sleep analysis included. Here har Polar with the Vantage M2 strongly nachgelegt. Especially for athletes, this is very interesting, because sleep is enormously important for regeneration. Too little or bad sleep means poor performance in sports. Here Polar analyzes your movements during sleep and can evaluate the quality of your sleep. You can also look at the sleep phases and evaluate everything.
You get zusätlzich still tips on how you can improve your sleep quality. Compared to many other manufacturers, this analysis is very detailed and really helpful. Many offer you here only very superficial information, which you would have often even bemkert. You are tired, ergo you have slept badly.
Battery saving mode
The battery life itself doesn't differ between the Polar Vantage M and Vantage M2. Both have a battery life of up to 5 days. However, the Polar Vantage M2 offers you different power options. This allows you to extend the battery life. Especially for ultramarathon runners or hikers an exciting factor.
GPS
Nothing new here, but there is a genrgener difference between the Polar Vantage V and Vantage M to mention. Both have a very geneues GPS, but you can only control a map guidance via the watch on the Vantage V.Is it worth switching?
The range of differences between the Polar Vantage M and Vantage M2 is not small. An upgrade to the new Polar Vantage M2* can therefore be well worth it. Especially the music control and the good sleep analysis are a big plus for everyone with the Polar Vantage M2. The weather can also be practical, but in my opinion is not an argument for buying. The functions FuelWiese and "energy sources" are more interesting for long-term athletes. That should appeal to fewer people, but also be interesting. For me, these two options would not be the first whale for a change.
The energy options are also very positive. However, the Akkulaufzet is raised here in training mode from 30 to a maximum of 100 hours. Thus, this function is again relevant for long-term athletes. Many will get along quite well with 30 hours.
In my eyes, a change to you Polar Vantage M2* is worthwhile. Especially if you do long sports units, for you it is worthwhile.
